I'm Lucy (Gem is my middle name). I'm an artist and ecologist who is passionate about wildlife and nature conservation and a strong advocate for the need to change our society's habits in the face of climate crises and global biodiversity loss. I currently reside in Calgary, Alberta with my husband (slash business manager) plus our dog, two cats, and many houseplants. When I'm not creating art or conducting research, I like to get outside however I can, and love hiking, rock climbing, skiing, gardening, and birdwatching.

Art has always been a hobby of mine, and I can't remember a time I didn't draw or paint for fun and stress relief, although I chose to follow a scientific path with my education. I have an MSc in wildlife biology and am nearing the end of my PhD journey.  In the last few years, I've started to see how art and ecology are complementary, and have been exploring ways of using my art to tell scientific stories and evoke passion about nature and wildlife. My ultimate goal is to create art and design products that inspire caring about our amazing planet and the wonderful ecosystems and beings with whom we share it. Sustainability, eco-friendly products, and limiting consumption of resources are very important to me, so I'm always researching and working towards ways of making products, packaging, and shipping more environmentally friendly, and of giving back to our planet.
